Zbigniew Preisner是波兰最瞩目的电影音乐作曲家，并被公认为当代电影作曲家中最为杰出的。多年来Preisner 跟电影导演 KrzysztofKieslowski（基斯洛夫斯基）及其剧本作家 Krzysztof Piesiewicz有过多次亲密而愉快的合作。他为基斯洛夫斯基的电影——《十诫》（Dekalog）、《两生花》（TheDouble Life OfVeronika）、《蓝》、《白》、《红》等——所谱写的乐曲，为他带来国际声誉。
Zbigniew Preisner早年在波兰的克拉科夫市学习历史和哲学，但音乐开始引起了这名年轻人的兴趣，在他偷偷地研究音乐的时候，他遇到了ElzbietaTowarnicka，这位女高音后来常常在他创作的电影原声中亮相。当时Preisner常常买来唱片，然后将它们改编成变奏曲；他的书桌上总是摆放着乐谱，借此来学习作曲。作为一名作曲家他是个无可救药的浪漫主义者——他喜欢浪漫的音乐，尤其喜欢波兰的浪漫主义作曲家，还有帕格尼尼、西贝柳斯等等。他很强调音乐中旋律的重要性，并认为某些缺乏旋律性的现代音乐就如人造珠宝，他就是不喜欢或者瞧不起这样的音乐。
《两生花》是 Preisner的大转折。一部由荷兰作曲家 Van den Budenmayer创作的优美的E小调协奏曲，给世人留下了一个大谜团，因为关于这位作曲家，在音乐史上根本找不到只言片语。当然，Vanden Budenmayer 只不过是 Preisner跟大家玩的一个小把戏，其实是他自己的化名。Preisner的音乐跟基斯洛夫斯基的电影有着非常密切的联系，而他也为其他导演作过很多电影配乐。Preisner本来计划跟基斯洛夫斯基的下一步电影三部曲《天堂》、《地狱》、《炼狱》合作，然而他最终未能达成这个心愿，因为基斯洛夫斯基在1996年3月13日离世了。
迄今为止，在他为其配乐的众多的拥有国际声誉的电影中，包括 HectorBabenco 的《At Play In The Fields Of The Lord》、Louis Malle的《Damage》、Luis Mandoki 的《When A Man Loves A Woman》、CharlesSturridge 的《Fairytale: A True Story》以及 Agnieska Holland的《The SecretGarden》等等（后两部在明珠台看过，是引人入胜的、带有童话色彩的儿童电影）。
